Burning Kiln Winery

With scenic vineyards featuring grape varieties from Pinot Grigio to Petit Verdot, Burning Kiln Winery has been welcoming wine lovers since 2011.

Located just outside of Turkey Point, it’s hard to resist sitting back and savouring a glass of something delicious on this winery’s inviting patio, complete with red umbrellas, twinkling string lights and a communal fire pit.

But before you get comfy on the patio, learn a thing or two about wine and sharpen your palate with a guided tasting, tutorial or tour.

The winery’s restaurant, The Back Kitchen, serves up tasty snacks. Dig into the “Taste of Norfolk” charcuterie platter to sample artisanal treats from around the region.

Bonnieheath Estate Lavender & Winery

If you’re looking for things to do near Port Dover, take a trip up the road to Bonnieheath Estate Lavender & Winery in Waterford.

Enjoy a glass of wine or a pint of cider as you take in the relaxing aroma of lavender on this beautiful 52-hectare farm.

The farm dates back to the early 1800s as a tobacco producer for many years before transforming into one of Ontario’s favourite spots for artisan wine.

Bonnieheath’s picturesque vineyard grows nine different grape varietals, which are picked, processed and crafted into award-winning wines. But you won’t find your average grape. The farm grows lesser-known vines like Petite Pearl and Frontenac Gris for a truly unique wine experience in a truly unique setting.

Reserve a picnic and charcuterie board for a highly Instagrammable afternoon and roll into the evening by booking an overnight in the cellar suite or luxury farmhouse.

Front Road Cellars and Blueberry Hill Estates

Overlooking Lake Erie, Front Road Cellars at Blueberry Hill Estates is a rustic winery producing both grape and fruit wines as well as small-batch ciders.

Start your tasting flight with the Fumé Blanc, a barrel-fermented expression of L’Acadie Blanc, a lesser-known, local grape varietal.

Move on to the “House Party Phat Red,” an easy-drinking Cabernet Franc packed with red fruit aromas and a peppery punch.

Finish your flight with a sip of the off-dry Bramble & Vine, a sparkling wine made from grapes and blueberries that, according to the winery, tastes like, “your mom's wine cooler all grown up”.

Don’t forget to visit the pick-your-own blueberry patch during harvest season.

Hounds of Erie Winery

Located on the north shore of Lake Erie in the beautiful town of Clear Creek, Hounds of Erie Winery is planted with unique vines and apple trees used to make hand-crafted wines and hard ciders.

Try their “Best in Show” cider, a crisp, refreshing blend of 21 different kinds of heritage cider apples. Or crack open a bottle of their dry, bubbly rosé made from the Crimson Pearl varietal.

If you happen to be a wine lover and a dog owner, this is the perfect spot for you. As the name suggests, Hounds of Erie Winery welcomes four-legged family members—they even host breed-specific meetups from May to September. Open seasonally only.

Frisky Beaver Wines

From delicious reds, like “Cocky Cabernet” to thirst-quenching whites, like the “Shades of Grey” chardonnay, there’s something for every palate at this welcoming winery.

Just minutes outside of Port Dover, grab a glass of Frisky Beaver wine and sip the night away while listening to live music on the estate’s patio.

If you happen to be an eco-conscious connoisseur, know that both their red and white house blends are sold in paper bottles made from 94% recycled material—don’t worry, they don’t leak.

With arguably the best views in all of Norfolk County, Inasphere Wines is a fully functioning winery and farm.

Sample a sauvignon blanc or sparkling Riesling in the hilltop tasting room, overlooking the fields and meadows below with Lake Erie in the distance.

Be sure to check out the charming farm market, featuring estate-grown veggies as well as local produce from surrounding Norfolk County farms. A great way to fill your picnic basket.
