Grand Bend

Grand Bend is one of southern Ontario's most popular beach destinations. In the summer months, locals and visitors alike flock to the sandy stretch that is Main Beach, which boasts a Blue Flag rating for water quality and safety. On July 1, celebrate Canada Day with the largest firework display in Southwestern Ontario. Visiting Grand Bend during the winter offers solitude and seasonal activities like skiing and snowshoeing.

Where is Grand Bend?

Grand Bend is located eastern shore of Lake Huron in Southwestern Ontario, about an hour's drive north of London, Ontario. Those flying into the region can land at London International Airport (YXU) with the option of renting a vehicle. During the summer months, the Bend Bus departs from London and Kitchener on weekends. 

Things to Do in Grand Bend

Grand Bend’s Main Beach is THE summer attraction. With a Blue Flag rating for water quality and safety, this popular spot has family friendly features like a playground, splash pad and a boardwalk to easily access shops and restaurants. Strollers and wheelchairs can access the beach with provided accessibility mats. If you are seeking more solitude, head to the nearby quieter South Beach. Grand Bend is known for the largest fireworks display in Southwestern Ontario to celebrate Canada Day. 

The outdoor enthusiast has plenty of options in Grand Bend. Local outfitters offer water skiing, tubing, parasailing, and skydiving during the summer months. For land based activities, the region boasts multiple hiking and biking trails to take in the scenery while keeping an eye out for wildlife and bird watching. Though best known for the summer crowds, winter can be a quiet time to enjoy the region - try cross-country skiing, shoeshowing, or even winter camping. 

For those seeking a different kind of adrenaline rush, the Grand Bend Motorplex offers multiple outdoor tracks for motocross, drag racing, and karting. Home to the International Hot Rod Association’s (IHRA) annual Mopar Canadian Nationals (the largest drag racing event in Eastern Canada) this multiplex track also hosts music events and offers on-site camping. 

Many family-owned shops in Grand Bend sell unique home goods, clothing, jewellery and locally made artisan products and artworks. Even shop for a handmade boat or canoe! The village features a wide range of dining, from informal grab-and-go options to fine dining. A farmers' market offering local produce, meats, flowers, and artisan wares runs bi-weekly on Wednesdays from May to October. 

Grand Bend Neighbourhoods & Districts

Grand Bend is a quaint village on the shore of Lake Huron. Restaurants, dining, shopping, and the Main Beach are all walking distance and the village is best explored by foot. This 9km paved trail connects Grand Bend to Pinery Provincial Park and offers picturesque views and ample bird watching.

St. Clair River and Huron Shore Route

Popular for cars and motorcyclists this 2.5-hour route offers a scenic 130 km drive through the region.
