Skiing, snowboarding and tubing

This winter, whether you ride, ski or tube, answer the call of the slopes and trails in Ontario.

Explore cross-country ski trails from classic groomed tracks and skate skiing routes to backcountry Nordic adventure. Challenging terrain will test even the most seasoned skiers, while beginners can start with lessons, guided experiences and convenient equipment rental.

From first timers finding their balance to seasoned pros chasing fresh powder, Ontario’s alpine ski hills deliver high-adrenaline fun for every skill level. Drop into groomed runs, catch air off jumps, carve clean lines on a snowboard or test your tricks in terrain parks and half pipes.

Find the best places for downhill skiing or snowboarding tailored to your style, including snow parks and resorts with on-site equipment rentals and lessons and progressive learning programs. Certified instructors will help you build the skills and confidence to take on more.

Ontario’s top ski and snow destinations welcome families with kid-friendly packages and additional fun, including snow tubing. Similar to snow tubing, families love the classic tradition of tobogganing.

Know before you go

Plan ahead with important tips and information.

Monitor snow and ski conditions

Heavy snowfall, rapid freezing and thawing affect roads, trails and hill conditions. The Ontario Snow Resorts Association provides updated ski and snowboard conditions.

Book well in advance

Purchase passes, lift tickets and equipment and gear rentals, such as skis, snowboards, boots and poles, in advance. Helmets may be standard or an add-on but are strongly recommended.

What to wear

Dress in layers, with a moisture-wicking base layer, ski jacket and pants, gloves or mitts and a neck warmer. You’ll also want 100% UV protection, anti-fog goggles and sunscreen.

Check age and height requirements

In most cases, snow tube riders must be over 106 centimetres tall (42 inches or 3 feet 6 inches). Some resorts have smaller hills for younger children. Helmets may be mandatory or recommended.

Download ski maps

Most major resorts have digital interactive maps with lift status, trail conditions and even 3D hill views. Visit resort websites, or Skimap.org for trail maps.
