Resting on the shores of Georgian Bay, the town of Parry Sound offers a little bit of something for every visitor. The charming town - sometimes called ‘the Sound’ - boasts a plethora of options for outdoor activities, including canoeing, kayaking and hiking, as well as intriguing museums, beaches and a performing arts centre.
Parry Sound is part of Georgian Bay, which is often referred to as the sixth Great Lake. The Bay features more than 30,000 islands and 2,000 km of shoreline. The stunning scenery throughout the region attracts visitors from around the world due to its marine heritage sites, lighthouses, towering cliffs and clear, sparkling water.

Where is Parry Sound?
The town of Parry Sound is located on the eastern shore of Georgian Bay, about 125 km north of Barrie.
You can reach Parry Sound four ways. You may travel to Parry Sound by car from Toronto, with easy access from Highway 400. There is daily service on the Ontario Northland bus service and rail service with VIA rail. You may also fly into Parry Sound Municipal Airport, located only ten minutes out of town, via small commercial flights or charter flights with Georgian Bay Airways.

Great lookout spot
The Tower Hill Lookout & Heritage Garden is a 30 metre high observation tower that provides stunning 360 degree views of the harbour Georgian Bay.
Favourite local beach
Blue flag certified Waubuno Beach, located at the end of Prospect Street, features shallow waters, soft sand, seasonal lifeguard and facilities, making it a perfect spot to enjoy long, summer days.
Where to go for a hike
The Algonquin Regiment Fitness Trail is a 6 km waterfront trail linking to the North Shore Rugged Trail.
Parry Sound Neighbourhoods & Districts
The Parry Sound Region has two subregions:
West Parry Sound
Included in West Parry Sound are the town of Parry Sound, the townships of McKellar, Seguin, The Archipelago, Carling, and the municipalities of Whitestone and McDougall.
East Parry Sound
This is often referred to as the Almaguin Highlands Region or simply as ‘the Highlands.’ This portion of Parry Sound covers approximately 5,200 square km. The Highlands are generally considered to be the mid east-west point of the Parry Sound Region.
Things to Do in Parry Sound
The town of Parry Sound is rich in marine heritage, culture and outdoor pursuits.
Art lovers will delight in the many choices found in the town. The Charles W. Stockey Centre for the Performing Arts houses a 400-seat festival performance hall and the Bobby Orr Hall of Fame. The centre overlooks Georgian Bay on almost 2 hectares of waterfront property, perfect for enjoying the serene beauty of the bay while you wait for a performance to begin. The centre hosts live events, including pop, rock, folk, blues and jazz concerts, theatrical performances, contemporary dance events, literary readings and children’s events. The Centre is also home to the Festival of the Sound, featuring chamber and classical music.
At the Bobby Orr Hall of Fame, you’ll step into the world of sports with education materials and memorabilia celebrating athletes and others associated with Parry Sound.
Nearby, Killbear Provincial Park features sandy beaches, rocky ridges and towering pines. Here you can go camping, bike the 6 km recreational trail, watch for birds, experience the park’s Discovery Program, go fishing, or hike any of the lovely trails along the coastline and through the trees.
While you’re in the Parry Sound, you’ll want to take a boat tour through Georgian Bay. On the Island Queen Cruise you’ll see some of the 30,000+ islands, catch glimpses of the incredible wildlife and aquatic life in the region and take in beautiful vistas along the coastlines.
Small private flights can be chartered with the Georgian Bay Airways for aerial views of Parry Sound’s magnificent beauty. See the rocky cliffs and forested hills from above and snap photos you’ll cherish for a lifetime.
Located at the base of Parry Sound’s 96-foot lookout tower, the Museum on Tower Hill features three galleries with rotating exhibits. The exhibits display collections of local artifacts, explore the history of the region and present fine arts in the contemporary galleries.
