An extended three-day weekend is an ideal timeframe to get in the maximum rounds of golf. Consider bundling three different courses, for example, play 18 holes on Friday, 27 or 36 holes on Saturday and 18 more on Sunday while staying at a central hotel or resort.
 
Generally, golf courses open from April through October, and many offer ‘Stay and Play packages and other specials.
 
Golfing in Ontario is a truly unique experience. Ontario is home to five of the great lakes, the mixed-wood plains ecozone, the Canadian Shield, boreal forests, and the tundra in the North, so you can be assured that each course is as diverse as its location.

Here is a list of some of Ontario's top golf destinations.

Barrie

Located on Lake Simcoe, Barrie is home to a large public beach, a historic downtown core with great shopping and dining and serves as a launchpad for endless outdoor pursuits nearby. To top it off, it’s close to amazing golf courses.

Innisbrook Golf

Located in Barrie’s south end, just minutes from Highway 400 and measuring 4,521 yards in length, it’s easy to get to Innisbrook. It’s also fun to play at the par 64 course that has an inviting clubhouse that a restaurant and outdoor patio.

Landings of Willow Creek

This par 36 course is made for walking with its 9-hole regulation length featuring 14 bunkers and two water hazards. It’s a great course for a Friday night arrival or for squeezing in one more golf game before leaving on Sunday.

Location: 424 Penetanguishene Road, Barrie

Bear Creek Golf Club

With three distinct 18-hole combinations on the 27-hole course, Bear Creek offers variety to enhance your golfing experience. The average is 35 par and approximately 2,800 yards per nine holes. A relaxing clubhouse with a covered patio and the Bear Paw Grill offer sustenance after a long day of golfing.

Belleville

Situated on the beautiful Bay of Quinte, Belleville is a unique, urban centre that feels more small-town than a city. Its local golf courses are also far from ordinary.

Black Bear Ridge

Ranked 5th Best Public Golf Course in Ontario and 54th in Top 100 Canadian Courses in 2020 by SCOREGolf, this is a challenging must-play course for passionate golfers. Over seven thousand yards from the tips in a traditional parkland layout certainly bodes well for a great day of golf.

Location: 501 Harmony Road, Corbyville

The Trillium Wood Golf Club

A par 72 course that plays between 4,900 and 6,700 yards from four tee decks on over 200 acres of scenic landscape. Equipped with electric carts and a relaxing restaurant that overlooks the 18th hole, it’s a delight to play.

Caledon

From the Niagara Escarpment to the Oak Ridges Moraine, Caledon is well known for spectacular landscapes and dazzling topography, characteristics that lend well to excellent golf.

Caledon Golf and Country Club

Opened in 1960, this 18-hole public course measures 6,505 yards from the longest tees. It boasts a 72 USGA rating and features three sets of tees for different skill levels.

Mayfield Golf Club

Three distinctive 9-hole tracks make for a full day of great golf. Refreshing drinks await you at the turn and order food ahead of time to be delivered to you on the course.

Location: 12552 Torbram Road, Caledon East

Glen Eagle Golf Club

Glen Eagle also offers three distinct 9-hole layouts that allow golfers to play three different 18-hole combinations or 27 holes in one day. Each of the 9 holes is approximately par 36, with an average length of 3,400 yards.

Collingwood

Located between Blue Mountain and Wasaga Beach, the town of Collingwood truly offers four seasons of activities, including amazing golf.

Cranberry Golf Course

With 6,618 yards of expansive fairways and magnificent Blue Mountain as the backdrop, this course is both challenging and scenic. Check out their food app to avoid any line-ups and have meals delivered to you on the course.

Blue Mountain Golf and Country Club

The walkable 6,106-yard, 72 par, and 18-hole course at Blue Mountain is a semi-private club with an exclusive club vibe. Dornoch Tap and Grill are the new caterers, so enjoy elevated pub fare, like sandwiches and other snacks.

Location: 706 Tenth Line, Collingwood

Monterra Golf

Nestled in Blue Mountain, Monterra is a 6,581-yard, 72 par and 18-hole course. With so many restaurants and activities around the mountain, this golf course can certainly brag about having a great location.

The Golf Club at Lora Bay

One of Ontario’s most scenic courses with its Georgian Bay backdrop, Lora Bay’s five tee decks offer a challenging test for seasoned golfers and an enjoyable day for casual golfers. Located in charming Thornbury, just a short drive west of Collingwood.

Gravenhurst

Only two hours north of Toronto, you’ll feel a world away with views of Muskoka’s forested areas, beautiful lakes and rocky outcroppings of the Canadian Shield.

Muskoka Bay Resort

Consistently ranked Ontario’s top public golf course since opening in 2002, this Doug Carrick-designed gem is a feast for the senses. After your memorable round, relax with a beverage and meal on the panoramic terrace as you recount the birdies that got away. Taboo Muskoka

Taboo sits among Canada’s Top 100 courses and is renowned for its panoramic beauty. This 18-hole course measures 7,340 yards and boasts a 75.1 USGA rating. Rental carts are available and three different restaurants vary from fine dining to Bar 19 serving casual beverages, snacks and sandwiches.

Muskoka Highlands

About a 15 minute drive north of Gravenhurst in Bracebridge, Muskoka Highlands caters to beginner golfers with a 3,000-yard course within the 6,000-yard championship course. What’s also unique about this property is that dogs are welcome.

Huntsville

In the heart of beautiful Muskoka, Huntsville is one the most popular places for a weekend getaway. Flanked by Algonquin and Arrowhead Provincial Parks just north, the scenery is spectacular, as is the golf.

Deerhurst Highlands

Deerhurst’s par 72 course is consistently ranked among Canada’s top 100 public courses. With views of Canadian Shield that look like a painting by the famous Group of Seven, the celebrated course, five onsite restaurants, and luxury accommodations, Deerhurst is one of central Ontario’s finest golf resorts.

Huntsville Downs Golf

This 18-hole, 6,486-yard, par 72 course is situated on 200 acres of the Canadian Shield. The BBQ at the turn offers a wide selection of quick meal options like gourmet burgers, sausages, hot dogs and sandwiches on freshly baked bread and buns, perfect before or after a round of golf.

The Diamond in the Rough

Located 25 minutes from Bracebridge, Huntsville and Port Carling, the Diamond is home to luxury cottages that sleep six and have waterfront access. It features 2,754 yards from the back tees and a par score of 34. This 9-hole course makes a great fit for your first round on arrival day.

Kingston

The beautiful city of Kingston is steeped in history and features a gorgeous waterfront, exciting cuisine, all price points for accommodations and several golf courses. Here are three options just a short drive from the city.

The Landings Golf Course

Located next door to Norman Rogers Airport in Kingston’s west end, this 18-hole, par 63 course has a 4,200-yard layout and a full practice range featuring a 25,000 square feet grass tee deck and a large practice putting green along with beautiful views of Lake Ontario.

Location: 1025 Len Birchall Way, Kingston

Garrison Golf and Curling Club

This course is an 18-hole, par 72 golf course located within CFB Kingston so you know the course has been laid out with ‘military precision’. The property includes a clubhouse and snack bar. Although many of the regulars are military personnel, visiting golfers are more than welcome.

Location: 12 Red Patch Ave, Kingston

Amherstview Golf Club

It’s easy to walk this 18-hole, par 72 and 6,232 yard course. It has a layout that’s not too intimidating for beginners. If you prefer to use a cart, a new fleet of Yamaha golf carts will be available in 2022. There’s a food truck beside the 10th hole to keep you energized for the back nine.

Niagara Falls

Niagara region is the home to one of the great wonders of the world. It also boasts tremendous golfing opportunities. Come for the falls and stay for the golf.

Beechwood Golf

Built on the site of a War of 1812 battle in the War of 1812, there’s some interesting history at this property. The “Old Barn” section of the clubhouse was built in 1883. Play the 6,653-yard, par 72 course and enjoy the restaurant pub-style pizzas fit for a golfer’s appetite.

Legends on the Niagara

Featuring not one, but two championship courses including a par 3 executive course and 360° driving range all situated on 45 acres. You can walk or ride these courses, and then enjoy the delicious pub-style fare at the clubhouse restaurant that overlooks the greens bordering on historic War of 1812 battlegrounds.

Niagara-on-the-Lake Golf Club

Established in 1875, this is North America’s oldest golf course. Situated along the Niagara River and steps from the quaint shops on Victoria Street in charming Niagara-on-the-Lake. This is an 18-hole stroll you’ll not soon forget.

Grand Niagara Golf Club

Minutes from the Fallsview tourist area and along the Welland Canal stand 36 holes of unforgettable golf designed by two of the sport’s legends, Rees Jones and Greg Norman. Admire picturesque, rolling fairways from tee decks measuring under 6,000 yards for the novice and up to over 7,000 yards for the avid player looking for a true test.

Ottawa

The capital of Canada is brimming with epic history, architecture, culture, culinary and golf courses.

The Marshes Golf Club

This scenic public golf club is part of the Brookstreet Hotel complex in Ottawa’s Kanata neighbourhood, featuring an 18-hole championship golf course and a 9-hole PGA-approved short-course. In addition to great rooms and suites, Brookstreet also offers fine dining opportunities, a lounge and a café.

The Pine View

Located just 12 minutes from Parliament Hill, the Championship Course at Pine View is a 6,540 yard, par 72 parkland design that will challenge every level of golfer, while the 18-hole executive is perfect for a quick round and some short game practice.

The Meadows Golf & Country Club

Four unique nines make The Meadows a premier golf destination in the Ottawa area. World-class golf, scenery and food make it a favourite of locals and visitors alike.

Location: 4335 Hawthorne Road, Gloucester

 
Sault Ste. Marie

Located where two of the Great Lakes meet, this waterfront city has the best of both worlds — urban amenities coupled with some of the very best outdoor adventures in the surrounding Algoma region. And what’s more, it’s home to great golfing opportunities.

Crimson Ridge

Waterfalls, creeks, numerous elevation changes, mature hardwoods and incredible views add to the ambiance of this par 72, 6,810-yard course. As does the onsite restaurant, Embers, that offers both pub fare and fine dining.

Location: 418 Fourth Line West, Sault Ste. Marie

Silver Creek

Located just outside Sault Ste. Marie in the Garden River First Nation, this 18-hole championship layout is one of Northern Ontario’s longest courses, a par 72 measuring 7,435 yards from the tips. The onsite restaurant serves a famous Friday night fish fry that is a must-try.

Location: 104 Belleau Lake Road, Garden River

The Sault Ste. Marie Golf Club

This 6,768-yard, par 72 course is located in the heart of the Sault overlooking the St. Marys River. The clubhouse is home to Mulligans Irish Pub – a favourite of visiting golfers and locals alike.

Location: 1804 Queen Street East, Sault Ste. Marie


Sudbury

The city of Greater Sudbury is an amalgamation of Sudbury, Capreol, Nickel Centre, Onaping Falls, Rayside-Balfour, Valley East and Walden, as well as several unincorporated townships. Greater Sudbury is home to a major geological structure called the Sudbury Basin which is the third-largest and one of the oldest craters on Earth. Locally known as the City of Lakes, Greater Sudbury contains 330 lakes, ample outdoor activities and excellent golf.

Twin Stacks Golf Club

You’d never know this 9-hole, par-35 par executive course was once the site of Inco's decommissioned Coniston Smelter. The re-greened property today is far from the image of the old sulpher-blackened rocks and tailings ponds of the past, but it’s still known locally as “the Stacks”. 

Location: 84 Smelter Road, Coniston

Timberwolf Golf Club

At 7,126 yards and par 72, this course is long and beautiful. The sprawling layout gives players an overwhelming sense of solitude as each hole provides seclusion from the others. And while you’re out golfing, Chef Barry will be busy preparing daily soup, pizza and pasta specials.

Windsor

Golf and also enjoy everything Ontario’s southernmost city has to offer, including full-service hotels, culinary offerings and even Caesar’s Windsor.

Seven Lakes Golf

After conquering the 6,802-yard championship course, take on the adjacent 9-hole course, which was the property’s original track.

Ambassador Golf Club

Named the best new course in Canada when it opened in 2005, the Ambassador measures from 5,300 yards to over 7,000 yards, depending on how brave you are in selecting your tees. With full banquet facilities, the Tuscan House Grill and more, the full Ambassador experience is a must-do.

Fox Glen Golf Club

The layout of this 18-hole, par 70 course is designed to provide every golfer with a challenging and fun experience. The course is located just outside Windsor in Essex, a key stop for beer and spirit lovers who’ll definitely want to check out the Barrels, Bottles & Brews trail.

Uxbridge

Located just 45 minutes from Toronto, Uxbridge is an inviting community with great food and local breweries, various accommodations and the outdoors at your fingertips, including awesome golf courses.

Mill Run Golf Club

Home to two golf courses with a total of 45 holes, this championship course has three unique nines, the Wheel, Grist, and Grind, totalling 6,662 yards. They also offer an 18-hole Highland executive course. The clubhouse at Mill Run is open all year round.

Wooden Sticks

A true nod to the spirit of the game, Wooden Sticks is a golf-lovers dream. Architect Ron Garl designed the course taking inspiration from 12 different famous PGA golf holes. Vaughan

Famous for the largest amusement park in the country, Canada’s Wonderland, and one of Canada's largest shopping centres, Vaughan Mills, Vaughan is also home to outstanding golf.

Eagles Nest Golf

This 7,476-yard, par 72 monster offers panoramic views of the downtown Toronto skyline and is consistently rated among Canada’s top public courses. Jim and Garry's Pub and Lago’s Gourmet Express Catering allow you to fill up before and after your round.

Copper Creek

Located just 35 minutes north of downtown Toronto, this course is a par 72 laid out on 7,074 yards and is home to the Kleinburg Room and Bistro for fine or casual dining with a spectacular terrace overlooking the valley.
