MICHELIN-starred restaurants in Toronto and beyond
Restaurant Pearl Morissette, Jordan Station
The MICHELIN Guide has expanded to recognize more exceptional dining experiences in Toronto and beyond.
In 2026, 15 exceptional restaurants in Ontario were awarded a MICHELIN Star, including Restaurant Pearl Morissette, which received two MICHELIN Stars. Additional restaurants received the Bib Gourmand and recommended restaurant distinctions.
What is the MICHELIN Guide
The MICHELIN Restaurant Guide was first published in 1900 by brothers and car tire manufacturers Edouard and Andre Michelin as Le Guide MICHELIN, an information guide for motorists. They hoped it would encourage more French people to use cars and buy MICHELIN-brand tires.
The MICHELIN Guide was a huge success and its reach and prestige expanded to other countries and continents.
The Guide evolved to include restaurant information and to award “stars” to those considered fine dining establishments by anonymous restaurant inspectors. Criteria include quality ingredients, elevated flavour combinations, masterful cooking techniques, the chef’s individual personality expressed in the dishes and consistency in excellence.
The MICHELIN Star System recognizes culinary excellence with the following distinctions:
One Star: High-quality food that is worth a visit
Two Stars: Excellent cooking that is worth a detour
Three Stars: Exceptional cuisine that is worth a special journey
Additionally, MICHELIN awards other distinctions, including:
Bib Gourmand: Good quality, good value cooking
Recommended Restaurants: Good cooking
Today, the MICHELIN Star Guide has become a worldwide icon of culinary excellence.
