Meet farmers, growers and makers at an Ontario farm and get hands-on with these unique rural experiences. Understand new and traditional sustainable farming practices and learn new skills along the way.

Consider these tips before you visit and while you are at the farm:

  • Wear comfortable, sturdy, flat, closed-toed boots or shoes.
  • Dress in layers, with a sweater or light jacket for fall weather and clothing you don’t mind getting dirty (consider a change of clothes for the trip home).
  • Apply sunscreen and bug spray.
  • Bring a hat and gloves for hands-on activities.

Summit Station Dairy and Creamery

Visit this operating dairy farm near Hamilton to observe milk processing through a viewing window. Morning and evening farm tours are offered most Fridays and Saturdays at 11:30 a.m. and 6:45 p.m.; tickets must be purchased in advance. In addition, enjoy special events and live entertainment on Friday evenings in July and August under the pavilion.

Purchase milk and other dairy products, such as cream and cheese curds. Additional local products, including honey, jams and maple syrup are also available for sale on the farm.

Dufferin Farm Tour

Since 1998, Dufferin farmers have welcomed visitors each fall for a one-day farm tour showcasing life on the farm.

Meet the local farmers and growers in Dufferin County and visit farms, orchards and stables on this self-guided tour. During this one-day event, numerous farms in the county open their doors, inviting families to learn about the day-to-day operations of farming and agriculture in the area.

Admission for the tour is a non-perishable food donation or cash for the local food bank.

Littlejohn Farm is a family-friendly agritourism experience in Prince Edward County. The farm strives to connect people with a deeper understanding of food production and the landscape it comes from.

Take a tour of the property, sample the daily charcuterie selection and get hands-on with making your own tea blend, beeswax candle and soap.

Delight your tastebuds with fresh, Farm Dinners that are authentic culinary events incorporating international themes and flavours, capturing the essence of farm living. Dine on plated, multi-course dinners accompanied by a garden cocktail, canapes and dessert.

Farm Sum

A hub of organic farming and sustainable agriculture, Farm Sum offers cooking classes, local handicrafts and fresh vegan food.

Take a guided farm tour around the garden and greenhouse. On this tour you’ll visit the animals, stroll through the scenic forest and browse the farm store. Registration is required.

After the tour, enjoy a “Farm Sum” lunch, a fusion of farm-fresh ingredients and traditional Chinese flavours. Inspired by dim sum, this meal features peasant-style steamed buns, dumplings and ferments with organically produced pork, eggs, vegetables and herbs.

Sign up for the farm’s cooking class where you’ll spend about 3-4 hours making dough, filling preparation and more to create farm-fresh, nutritious and delicious bundles of joy–plus you get to take the left-over dumplings and buns home! If you feel like making your own dumplings and steamed buns, Farm Sum’s got you covered.

Connect with nature at No. 9 Gardens, a sustainability centre implementing innovative projects in sustainable food systems.

Its 16-hectare organic garden features winding trails, wildflower fields and vegetable gardens. Join engaging workshops that cover ecological garden design, Indigenous agriculture, garden-to-table cooking and more.

Workshops are designed for guests of all ages, with a pay-what-you-can admission fee, and drinks are provided.

Stay the night at No.9 Garden in prospector tents or yurts, with the farm offering a unique seed to table breakfast for guests.

Eigensinn Farm

The ultimate farm-to-table dining experience is offered by Chef Michael Stadtländer and his wife, Nobuyo, who grow and raise organic produce and livestock on their 40-hectare home farm. Bounty from the farm is used to prepare multi-course meals during the farm’s signature dinner events.

On select days between June and September, adult guests are treated to an outdoor (weather-permitting) farm meal that lasts approximately four hours.

Secret Lands Farm

A family-owned and operated sheep dairy farm south of Owen Sound in Grey Highlands, Secret Lands produces small-batch, artisanal dairy and cheese using traditional, organic farming practices. Family-oriented farm tours and food events are held throughout the summer and fall, and products are sold at the farm-gate shop.

The Sunday Farm Tour and Brunch is ideal for adults. This three-hour event starts with a walk around the farm and a visit to the barn, followed by a brunch featuring dairy, cheeses and meats from the farm.

Pick up a complimentary map at the farm stand and search for points of interest, such as Mud Mountain, the Hugelkultur Area, the Trading Tree and the Barn. The farm stand is open on Fridays 12:00 p.m.–6:00 p.m. and Saturdays 9:00 a.m.–1:00 p.m. for purchasing locally grown fruits and vegetables.
