Waupoos Winery and Restaurant | Destination Ontario

One of Canada’s trendiest wine destinations is also home to a passionately locally-focused foodie community and endless views of grapevines, farm fields and shorelines. Here are a few wineries plus foodie experiences worth making the trip for. All you need to bring is a healthy appetite and your favourite people for company.

Winery restaurants

Waupoos Estates Winery Restaurant

This upscale winery restaurant is perfect for date night, anniversaries, reunions and other memorable events. Large windows wrap around the dining room to maximize the views of the vineyards, apple orchard and Lake Ontario shoreline.

Chef and founder Scott McInerney’s culinary creativity shines with his thoughtful prix fixe lunch and dinner farm-to-table menus. The seasonal ingredients, including proteins, herbs and veggies grown onsite, are as fresh as possible, cooked to perfection and pair well with the curated wine selections.

Location: 3016 County Rd 8, Picton

La Pergola Restaurant & Patio at Casa-Dea Estates Winery

Located on the outskirts of Wellington, Casa-Dea is one of the County’s largest and most established wineries, producing quality wines since 2000. Overlooking the main vineyard, La Pergola is an Italian-inspired eatery and patio, the perfect spot to linger over exceptionally good food and wine.

Location: 1186 Greer Rd, Wellington

Wine and wood fired pizza

Huff Estates Winery & Inn

Another pioneer property, Huff Estates Winery is one of the original wineries in the County.

In addition to the winery facilities, Huff Estates is home to a chic inn, a celebrated art gallery and a restaurant and a covered patio with a wood-fired stone pizza oven.

Admire the artwork at Oeno Gallery, savour authentic Italian pizza with crushed San Marzano tomato sauce and garlic drizzle with a glass of award-winning wine and turn in for the evening to your suite overlooking the vineyards.

Location: 2274 Prince Edward County Rd 1, Bloomfield

Three Dog Winery

Weekends are made for wood-fired pizza and great wine! Visit one of the County’s most welcoming wineries for wine tastings and pizza on the patio on Saturday or Sunday. Gluten-free and vegetarian options are available, as well as daily charcuterie boards. Four-legged friends are welcome! There’s also an onsite yoga studio and a vineyard loft suite if you want to stay the night.

Location: 1920 Fish Lake Rd, Picton

Black Prince Winery

Just south of Picton, Black Prince Winery is famous for its seasonal gourmet barrel house wood-fired pizzas served in a rustic barn or outside among the vines, its artisan vinegar and quality wines. Their most recent addition to the menu completes the perfect summer afternoon treat, Ste. Anne’s Spa gluten-free frozen ice cream! Choose from Blueberry Lavender, Coconut Cream, Raspberry Orange, Strawberry Rhubarb and Chocolate.

Location: 13370 Loyalist Parkway, Picton

Winery picnics

Cape Vineyards

One of the County’s most westerly wineries, Cape Vineyards produces biodynamic natural wine and cider. In addition to tastings and shopping experiences at the bottle shop, Cape Vineyards has a beautiful property. There are several weekend summer food options at the eatery, but we recommend the Sunday Brunch Picnic Special. You’ll get two sandwiches, a salad and a chilled bottle of wine or sparkling cider to enjoy in a quiet spot.

Location: 4203 County Rd 8 RR#4

Sandbanks Estate Winery

Available on select days during the summer, you’re invited to enjoy a glass of fruity and flavourful Sandbanks wine along with a bistro box from the Shoreline Bistro food truck to enjoy in the picnic area overlooking the vineyards.

Location: 17598 Loyalist Pkwy, Wellington
