Ontario is home to the province’s only Major League Soccer (MLS) team—Toronto FC, affectionately known as “TFC” or “The Reds”.

Since joining MLS in 2007, Toronto FC has developed a devoted fan base whose dream came true in 2017 when The Reds won the MLS Cup.

The team plays at BMO Field, an outdoor stadium in Exhibition Place with beautiful views of Lake Ontario.

The season starts in late February and runs until mid-October. The playoffs take place in late October and November, culminating in a showdown for the coveted MLS Cup.

Game day details: Know before you go

Here are a few things to consider before you head to the TFC home game.

• BMO Field is a cashless stadium, so a debit or credit card is required for payment.
• The stadium includes accessible features with barrier-free seating, accessible washrooms and elevators.
• Leave your bags at home, the stadium enforces a clear bag policy.
• For an authentic Toronto FC tradition, join locals about an hour before kickoff in Liberty Village and march en masse.

MLS Next Pro

Launched in 2022 by MLS, Next Pro is a Division III professional men’s league, which provides talented international and domestic players with a direct pathway to an MLS club.

Of the league’s 29 teams, Toronto FC II is Ontario’s only Next Pro club. The season begins in March with the playoffs taking place in the fall, and the team plays at York Lions Stadium, north of downtown Toronto.

A truly exciting club, Toronto FC II offers fans the opportunity to watch rising TFC stars from around the world develop their skills before joining the major leagues.

Purchase tickets in person at the stadium only. Kids under the age of 10 attend for free.

Canadian Premier League

The Canadian Premier League (CPL) is Canada’s national men's league. Since forming in 2019, this professional league has offered soccer fans an exciting alternative to MLS.

The league consists of eight teams from across the country—three of which happen to be in Ontario: Forge FC in Hamilton, York United FC in Toronto and Atlético Ottawa in the nation’s capital.

The Craft Brasserie

The Craft Brasserie, one of Liberty Village’s go-to spots for TFC action, is located in a converted brick-and-beam factory.

Try the 16-hour smoked brisket poutine or the beer-battered fish taco served with pico de gallo and lemon aioli—both delicious options. Liberty Commons is the brewpub brainchild of celebrated Toronto restaurant group Oliver & Bonacini and Alberta’s beloved Big Rock Brewery.

The Dog & Bear

At this downtown pub, no sport is off limits. From NFL to F1, there is something for everyone. However, being a proper English pub, you can cheer on an EPL match.

If you’re with a larger group of five or more, call ahead to have the kitchen prepare you a traditional English roast beef dinner with Yorkshire pudding.
