Where to celebrate in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA)

The GTA offers lots of great places to celebrate New Year’s Eve with family or friends, at events happening across the region—from Mississauga, Brampton and Markham to Scarborough and downtown Toronto.

Find the ultimate New Year’s Eve bash at Toronto’s City Hall. Kick off 2023 at Nathan Phillips Square with free live music, ice skating, food and drinks trucks, and an Instagram-worthy fireworks display that starts at midnight. Check the City of Toronto website closer to the date for this year’s lineup and schedule.

In Brampton, the New Year’s Eve party starts at 9:00 p.m. at Garden Square. The free evening features some of Canada’s top musical talents, family-friendly activities, a spectacular fireworks display and local restaurants offering delicious fare on-site. Check their website for full information on this year’s event.

Spend the most anticipated night of the year at the museum! The Royal Ontario Museum (ROM) rolls out the red carpet with live bands, DJs, appetizers, drinks at RAD: NYE @ ROM, part of the museum’s ROM After Dark series. You’ll also have special access to the exhibitions “Fantastic Beasts: The Wonder of Nature,” “Kent Monkman: Being Legendary” and “Wildlife Photographer of the Year.” Tickets must be purchased in advance online, and the event is for ages 19+ only. Entry is between 7:30 and 11:30 p.m. on December 31.

Take in Toronto’s iconic skyline from the harbour. Jubilee Queen Cruise Lines offers a five-hour New Year’s Eve Party Cruise with reserved seating, a deluxe buffet dinner, cocktails, DJ party music and dancing, NYE party favours and a champagne toast at midnight—all with a stellar view of the city at night. The event is for ages 19+ only and boarding takes place at 7:00 p.m. Book tickets online.

New Year’s Eve at Celebration Square in Mississauga is a not-to-miss annual free event for revellers of all ages. The party starts at 9:00 p.m., with live performances by international recording artists, lots of delicious food trucks and show-stopping fireworks at midnight.

Toast the New Year in Niagara and Southwest Ontario

Revelers flock to Queen Victoria Park for the annual Niagara Falls New Year’s Eve with free live music, entertainment, food and fireworks right next to the spectacular Horseshoe Falls. Book a special New Year’s Eve dinner at the Table Rock House Restaurant, and enjoy a front-row view of the Falls. Check the restaurant’s website for up-to-date information about this year’s event.

What better way to toast 2023 than with a glass of wine in one of Canada’s favourite wine-growing regions. Check out special drink and dine events at top wineries like Riverbend Inn & Vineyard, Trius or Wayne Gretzky Estates. Check websites for up-to-date information and book early to avoid disappointment—these events often sell out quickly.

Everyone in the family can join in the fun at Hamilton’s New Year’s Eve Family Ball, with events scheduled throughout the day on December 31, 2022. Celebrations take place at Hamilton Children’s Museum at Ancaster Old Town Hall, and feature games, dancing, making arts and crafts (including noise makers!), and light refreshments. Tickets cost $7.50 per person, and the event takes place between 10:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Book tickets in advance online.

Couples looking for an elegant option can ring in the new year on the shores of Lake Erie at the Port Dover Yacht Club’s New Year’s Eve Party. The event begins at 8:00 p.m. on December 31 and celebrations continue until 1:30 a.m. on New Year’s Day. See their website for more information about this year’s event.

Family fun and fireworks in Barrie and Muskoka

Or consider a weekend or week-long adventure and book one of Muskoka’s New Year’s Eve packages. Celebrate the new year Muskoka-style—with luxurious accommodations, romantic dining, relaxing spa treatments, and winter adventures like skating, stargazing, snowshoeing and cross-country skiing. Deerhurst Resort offers a Muskoka Holiday Magic two-week getaway, with magical family and adult options for New Year’s celebrations and lots of fun activities for the holiday season.
