Thornbury and Clarksburg
Thornbury and Clarksburg are two neighbouring communities located close to the popular ski and snowboard area, Blue Mountain Resort.
The towns sit near the mouth of the Beaver River on the shore of Georgian Bay, so in addition to mountain activities, they offer plenty of water-based recreational opportunities. Spend a day at a beach, rent a kayak and go for a paddle, fish one of many nearby spots or hike along a waterfront trail.
The area is well-known for its apple harvest, with cideries, bakeries and orchards available to visit along the region’s famous Apple Pie Trail.
Where are Thornbury and Clarksburg?
The towns of Thornbury and Clarksburg are situated alongside the Beaver River and Nottawasaga Bay. They are located about 160 kilometres northwest of the Greater Toronto Area.
Both towns and the surrounding area are most easily explored by car, although regional bus services are provided by Grey Transit. Boat moorage is available at the Thornbury Harbour.

Play a round of golf
Enjoy a round at two nearby courses—the Lora Bay Golf Club which caters to more experienced players, or Tomahawk Golf Course, which is more suited to newer players.

Located in Clarksburg, the Sheffield Park Black History and Cultural Museum preserves the history of the early Black pioneers and settlers of Simcoe and Grey Counties.
Go for a hike
Popular hiking options include the stunning Georgian Trail or the Beaver Valley section of the Bruce Trail.

Known as “Artsburg”, Clarksburg has a thriving arts scene. Visit galleries, chat with the local artists and find a work of art that speaks to you.
Relax at the beach
Everyone loves a beach day. Go for a dip at one of two local Blue Flag beaches—Little River Beach Park or Bayview Park. Both include parking, picnic tables and washrooms.

Located along the Apple Pie Trail, The Farmer’s Pantry offers everything from a farmers’ market to a petting zoo, a hay bale maze, mini-golf and obstacle courses.
